lapsedagnosticA friend of mine recently listed a chunk of her quote file. I have one entry:
"Have you ever felt like a small hairless rodent, lost in the outback of Australia, looking for water, and suddenly noticing that your shadow is getting larger and larger, and has wings?"
I don't actually remember writing it, though I have no doubt I, in fact, did, because reading it brings back memories of the year or two I read talk.bizarre, and occasionally posted there, and worked hard, I did, to try to impress them, or at least look vaguely insightful and intelligent. I've had any number of objects that bring back memories of emotions, but this is the first that brings forth the memory of a mental state. Or maybe it was just an emotional state, and I'm mislabeling it.
Thankfully, it's been a while since I've had the urge to figuratively pound on my chest to prove my cleverness. Hell, the entire Lapsed Agnostic joke was something I came up with in my twenties ("I don't know, and I don't even care anymore..."). Maybe I've just reached the age where random people's opinions of me just don't matter.
How about that.
(and I'm still waiting for the comma police to come in the middle of the night and break the ring finger of my left hand as they shout "Stop it! Stop it!")
